The top four?
- Strunk and White’s “Elements of Style“
- Stephen King’s “On Writing” (yes, that Stephen King)
- William Zinsser’s “On Writing Well” (we read two chapters from it on “Simplicity” and “Clutter” earlier this semester)
- Anne Lamott’s “Bird By Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life” <love>
I’ve read all four and highly recommend every one of them.
Also on the list, at No. 10, is Roy Peter Clark’s “50 Writing Tools.” Coming in at No. 24 is the AP Stylebook.
One title not on the list is “Writing for Story” by Jon Franklin, on long-form narrative journalism writing.
Anybody have any other recommendations for writing books not on this list?
