Welcome back to Drake! I hope you all had a great summer. I’m looking forward to a great semester in J70, Print Media Editing, one of my favorite classes to teach.
I confess to ambivalence over the name of the course, however: the notion of “print media” is an outdated one. We will be looking at editing for print and online. (And I’m now taking suggestions for a new name for the course!)
This semester, we are offering two sections of J70, both of which I’m teaching. One meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 10; the other Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8. This blog serves both sections.
Your assignment for Wednesday/Thursday:
- please read the Monday/Wednesday class syllabus or the Tuesday/Thursday class syllabus carefully, and bring any questions to class.
- please read the SPJ Code of Ethics, and highlight any statements that you think apply specifically to editors.
- please read chapters 1-3 in “Coaching Writers.” Then read the blog post “Who’s in Control?” Post your response by 5 p.m. tomorrow to the questions posed there; then return to the post to read classmates’ comments and respond to them.
